The biotech and MedTech industries are rife with challenges, with 90% of biotech companies failing within their first decade. But for Research Lifecycle Solutions (RLS) and its founder, Shaherah Yancy, failure was never an option.
Founded to address the hurdles startups face, RLS is a global consulting firm that empowers emerging MedTech and Pharma companies to navigate regulatory complexities, accelerate market access, and achieve long-term success. With a unique blend of strategic insights and tailored solutions, RLS goes beyond market entry, offering sustainability strategies that help companies thrive in the competitive healthcare landscape.
Starting with a Vision
When Shaherah joined Nashville Entrepreneur Center’s InFlight accelerator program, RLS was a six-month-old startup with a single contract worth $200K and no mentors to provide guidance. As a first-time entrepreneur, balancing the demands of delivering results, building a business, and acquiring critical knowledge was overwhelming.
“Joining the EC was a game-changer,” Shaherah shared. “I learned how to develop and effectively communicate my value proposition, prioritize my customer base, and build a network that has been instrumental to our success.”
Insights That Drove Growth
One of the most valuable lessons Shaherah learned was distinguishing between “Mr. Right” customers—ideal clients not yet ready to commit—and “Mr. Right Now” customers—perfect fits for immediate business opportunities. This clarity, combined with networking across industries and access to over 50 mentors through the EC, transformed Shaherah‘s approach to business growth.
“The relationships I built were incredible. Some mentors became customers, some became referral sources, and others simply became lasting connections that enriched my journey,” said Shaherah.
A Year of Milestones
Fast forward to today, RLS has evolved from a one-person startup to a thriving global consultancy with a team of three and an impressive list of accomplishments:
- Expanded its client base to include companies in Canada, Europe, Ireland, and Finland.
- Broadened its scope to serve both MedTech and Pharma companies.
- Delivered keynote addresses at three major global conferences.
- Presented at over 10 domestic conferences and seminars.
Looking Ahead
For 2025, RLS is laser-focused on growth. The company aims to triple its revenue, onboard an additional team member, and continue offering its signature all-in-one solutions that integrate regulatory, scientific, clinical, and business expertise.
But RLS isn’t just about profits. Last year, Shaherah supported three early-stage MedTech CEOs on a pro-bono basis, a commitment to community responsibility that remains core to the company’s mission.
As RLS continues to grow, its impact is undeniable—helping startups overcome challenges, succeed in delivering innovations to patients, and contribute to a healthier, more connected world.
