Member Spotlight: Aleshia Curry

Aleshia Curry is the founder of XenaFree, a subscription service that keeps your personal stash of feminine care products stocked at work – “we install a secure cabinet in your office restroom, you tell us what brands you use each month, and we keep them stocked.” She is also a Diversity Scholar for our current session of PreFlight.

What is your personal motto?

Thinking “outside of the box” means you’re still IN.THE.BOX – crush the box.

What characteristic do you admire most in successful entrepreneurs?

Grit – being an entrepreneur means you have to believe in AND act on the unseen. You also have to be able to embrace and push through the growing stages.

What tool, object or ritual could you not live without in your workday?

Listening to music – whether I need to focus, celebrate, or sulk there’s a song that fits!!

What advice would you give to someone seeking to create, launch or grow a business?

Always be prepared to accept feedback (because people will give it to you whether you ask or not), but be equally prepared to WAIT before acting on said feedback – it’s easy to feel like you need to act immediately on every “suggestion” when that’s not always the case.

What does the world need more of?

Dancing

Why the EC?

I found out about, and joined, the EC 2 weeks after I moved here – I didn’t know anyone in town so I knew I needed to get plugged in asap. Even though I missed the first PreFlight application deadline, I still wanted to join after my orientation. The energy is palpable and I love being in such a supportive community – everyone gives you that “yes I’m chasing my dream too” smile, and there’s a comfort in that, that you can’t find anywhere else!
